Este ano, o meu pai teve a ideia de fazer uma road trip por França, por essa razão é que tenho andado desaparecida por aqui!
Pois bem, começámos em Paris, onde mostrei a cidade aos meus pais, já que nunca lá tinham estado. Ficámos apenas dois dias e então visitámos a parte mais turística de Paris. Acabei por não tirar assim tantas fotografias por lá, mas se quiserem, podem ver as que tirei da primeira vez que lá estive aqui: 1, 2, 3.
Depois de Paris, rumámos ao Vale do Loire, onde se encontram alguns dos maiores e mais bonitos châteaus de França. Embora sejam imensos (alguns ainda são habitados) e os preços de entrada andem para cima dos 10 euros cada (em algumas situações a entrada é grátis, como foi o meu caso), fizemos uma seleção dos que queríamos visitar e daí escolhemos o de Chambord, por ser o maior e mais imponente, e o de Chenonceau por ser o mais bem mobilado de todos. Boas sugestões são também o Château de Cheverny, que ainda é habitado, o de Amboise, onde está sepultado Leonardo Da Vinci e o de Villandry, pelos seus jardins.
This year, my father had the idea of doing a road trip through France, that's why I've been so unactive here!
Well, we started in Paris, where I showed the city to my parents, since they had never been there before. We only stayed two days and visited the most touristy part of Paris. I ended up not taking a lot of photos there, but if you want, you can see the ones I took the first time I was there: 1, 2, 3.
After Paris, we headed to the Loire Valley, where some of the largest and most beautiful châteaus in France are located. Although they are huge (some are still inhabited) and the entry prices go upwards of 10 euros each (in some situations the entrance is free), we made a selection of the ones we wanted to visit and from there we chose Chambord, because it is the largest and most imposing of them all and Chenonceau for being the best furnished of all. Good suggestions are also the Château de Cheverny, which is still inhabited, the one of Amboise, where is buried Leonardo Da Vinci and the one of Villandry, by its gardens.

O seu tamanho é imperceptível nas fotografias, é mesmo muito, muito grande. Foi mandado construir pelo rei Francisco I, durante a época do Renascimento e foi construído por fases. Era usado para retiros de caça, devido à imensa propriedade onde está inserido e foi também mais tarde usado para guardar obras que se encontram no Louvre, como a Mona Lisa.
The size is imperceptible in the photographs, it's really, really big. It was built by King Francis I during the Renaissance period and was built in phases. It was used for hunting retreats, due to the immense property where it is inserted and was also later used to store pieces of art that are in the Louvre, such as the Mona Lisa.

Escadaria com espiral dupla. Pensa-se que foi feito com base num dos desenhos de Leonardo Da Vinci, que morreu algum tempo antes deste ter começado a ser construído. As escadas têm 2 entradas, uma de cada lado, com um núcleo oco, que quem as sobe consegue ver outra pessoa que esteja a subir ou descer pelo outro lado, mas nunca se encontram.

Como na maioria dos châteaus, as salas e salões mais importantes são forrados a tecido, muitas vezes veludos com motivos.
As in most châteaus, the most important rooms have their walls lined with fabric, often velvets with motifs.

Château de Chenonceau
Este château não foi dos mais bonitos que visitei, mas a história dele vale a pena ser contada. É chamado o 'Castelo das Damas' e foi disputado por duas mulheres. Era um antigo moinho, que se transformou em castelo por Jean Marques, mas que acabou por ser destruído. Mais tarde, Katherine Briçonnet supervisionou a construção de uma parte do château que vemos hoje. A parte mais interessante da história começa agora, quando o château sofre um upgrade e é oferecido pelo rei Henrique II à sua amante favorita, Diana de Poitiers. Diana era vinte anos mais velha que o rei e segundo se dizia, era dona de uma beleza invejável. Mesmo com alguma idade, esta tinha uma aparência jovem, que dizem ser devida a tomar todos os dia banho nas águas frias do rio Cher e a tomar banhos em óleos. Há até diga que outro dos segredos era tomar copos de água com partículas de ouro e que essa tenha sido a razão da sua morte. Quando o rei morreu, a sua mulher - Catarina de Médicis - uma mulher inteligente e culta quis tomar posse do seu palácio favorito, que por acaso tinha sido oferecido pelo seu marido à amante. Catarina expulsou Diana e oferenceu-lhe em troca outro château. Uma espécie de vingança, por tanto.
This château was not one of the most beautiful I've ever visited, but his story is worth telling. It is called the 'Castle of the Dames' and was disputed by two women. It was an old mill, which turned into a castle by Jean Marques, but was eventually destroyed. Later, Katherine Briconnet supervised the construction of a part of the château we see today. The most interesting part of the story begins now, when the château goes through an upgrade and is offered by King Henry II to his favorite mistress, Diana of Poitiers. Diana was twenty years older than the king, and she was said to have an enviable beauty. Even at some age, it had a youthful appearance, which is said to be due to take every day a bath in the cold waters of the river Cher and taking baths in oils. Some even say that another of her secrets was to take glasses of water with particles of gold and that this was the reason of her death. When the king died, his wife - Catherine de Medici - an intelligent and educated woman wanted to take possession of her favorite palace, which had happened to have been offered by her husband to his mistress. Catarina expelled Diana and offered her another château instead. A kind of revenge, therefore.

A galeria que foi mandada construír por Catarina de Médicis, quando esta adquiriu o palácio. Era uma ponte (que o seu marido mandou construir para a sua amante, daí o nome da ponte ser 'Ponte de Diana de Poitiers') que depois foi fechada e se tornou em salão de baile. Durante a segunda guerra mundial serviu também de hospital militar (tanto esta galeria, como todo o palácio).
The gallery was built by Catherine de Medici, when she acquired the château. It was a bridge (which her husband had built for her lover, the name of the bridge is 'Diana de Poitiers's bridge') which was then closed and converted into a ballroom. During the Second World War it also served as a military hospital (this gallery and the whole château).
